Handyman hourly rate calculator
What you charge per hour has to cover the hours nobody pays for: the drive, the quote, the trip for materials. Put in your own numbers.
The first two fields are what the work has to bring in over a year: what you pay yourself and what the business costs to run. The last three are the hours a customer pays for. Divide one by the other and you have the rate that covers your year; the profit field adds to it. "Without profit" shows the rate at which the year comes out even.

Handyman rates: how to set your own
- Work out your real hourly cost. Insurance, the truck, tools, the unpaid time driving and quoting: your rate has to cover the hours nobody pays for.
- Charge a service call. Every visit costs you the drive; make it the minimum, or add it on top.
- Flat prices for what you do every week. Customers like knowing the price of a TV mount before you arrive, and you get faster at it every time.
- Mark up materials. The trip to the store, the returns and the leftovers are your time.
- Write the scope down. "Patch two holes in the hallway" on the estimate stops "while you're here" from becoming free work.
