What to put on a window cleaning estimate

Count the windows or panes, keep inside and outside apart, and list screens and tracks as extras.

  • your business name, phone and email
  • your customer's name and the address of the job
  • an estimate number, the date and how long the price holds
  • each service and each part you plan to supply on its own line, with quantity and rate
  • any discount, tax and deposit to start
  • the total, and what the price leaves out

What an estimate has to show can differ by state, so check what applies where you work. This is general information, not tax or legal advice.

What each line on this estimate is for

Window cleaning is counted work: panes, screens, tracks. The count is what the customer checks.

Windows by the pane
The number of panes, and whether it was inside, outside or both.
Screens
Counted, with a price for each.
Tracks and sills
One line at a flat price, or counted if you price them that way.
Extra work on glass
Hard water spots or paint specks, by the pane, apart from the regular clean.

In the notes, write which windows you could not reach or open, and any glass that was already scratched or cracked.

Where window cleaning paperwork goes wrong: no count. With the panes and the screens counted on the invoice, next season's price takes one look.

Window cleaning estimate questions

How do I estimate without visiting?

Ask for the number of windows and stories, and a few photos. Say in the notes that the price is based on the count given.

Should I price inside and outside separately?

Yes, as two lines. Many customers start with outside only and add the inside later.

How do I price a regular service?

One line with the price per visit and how often you come.

What should a window cleaning estimate leave out?

Say it in the notes: glass that is already damaged, spots that may not come out, and windows that are painted shut.

How long should the price hold?

Put a date on it. The estimate maker lets you set how long the price holds.
