What to put on a window cleaning invoice

Count the windows or panes, keep inside and outside apart, and list screens and tracks as extras.

  • your business name, phone and email
  • your customer's name and the address of the job
  • an invoice number and the date
  • each service and each part on its own line, with quantity and rate
  • any discount, tax and deposit already paid
  • the total, and how and by when to pay

What an invoice has to show can differ by state, so check what applies where you work. This is general information, not tax or legal advice.

What each line on this invoice is for

Window cleaning is counted work: panes, screens, tracks. The count is what the customer checks.

Windows by the pane
The number of panes, and whether it was inside, outside or both.
Screens
Counted, with a price for each.
Tracks and sills
One line at a flat price, or counted if you price them that way.
Extra work on glass
Hard water spots or paint specks, by the pane, apart from the regular clean.

In the notes, write which windows you could not reach or open, and any glass that was already scratched or cracked.

Where window cleaning paperwork goes wrong: no count. With the panes and the screens counted on the invoice, next season's price takes one look.

Window cleaning invoice questions

By the pane or by the window?

Pick one and use it every time. Panes are more exact on houses with divided windows. Say which you count on the first line.

How do I bill hard-to-reach windows?

As their own line, such as second story or ladder work, with a count.

How do I invoice a storefront I clean every week?

Invoice each visit, or send one invoice for the month with each visit on its own line and its date.

Should screens be a separate line?

Yes. Some customers skip the screens on some visits, and a separate line makes that easy.

What if a window could not be cleaned?

Leave it out of the count and say which one in the notes, with the reason.
